Bio:

Tanuja’s cricketing journey started by playing gully cricket with the boys in her locality in 2011 until her father enrolled her at the HCC Academy in Dharamshala. She used to participate in badminton and volleyball competitions before taking up professional cricket.

Tanuja first came into the limelight when she was picked by the Gujarat Giants in the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) for INR 50 lakhs, on the back of an outstanding track record in domestic cricket. A week before the 2023 mega auction, she had taken 3 for 26 for Railways in the final of the One Day Trophy. In the same tournament, she finished with 18 wickets, averaging 11.16.

Her first edition of the WPL, for the Gujarat Giants, was a notable one, where she picked up 5 wickets from eight matches, but at an economy rate of close to nine. However, the left-arm spinner had an exceptional second season, finishing as the leading wicket-taker for the Giants, taking 10 wickets in eight matches, and proving handy lower down the order, scoring 28 against the Mumbai Indians.

Kanwer is known for a variation where she bowls her left-arm spin from well behind the popping crease. She was part of the traveling reserves in India’s squad for the ninth edition of the Women’s Asia Cup. Following Shreyanka Patil’s injury, she received her maiden call-up to the squad and went on to make her T20I debut against the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Her first victim came in her debut match as well in the form of the UAE skipper Esha Oza and finished with figures of 1 for 14 in four overs.
