Georgia Wareham Reaches 100 WBBL Appearances for Melbourne Renegades

Georgia Wareham has become only the second Melbourne Renegades player, after skipper Sophie Molineux, to make 100 WBBL appearances for the club, reaching the landmark in the Renegades’ campaign opener against Sydney Thunder at the Junction Oval in Melbourne.

The 27-year-old leg-spinning all-rounder’s milestone arrived in the tournament opener of the 12th edition of the Women’s Big Bash League, which runs from 29th October to 5th December 2026. Although the Renegades went down by six wickets to Phoebe Litchfield’s Sydney Thunder, the occasion underlined Wareham’s evolution from a promising youngster on debut in 2015 into one of the franchise’s most dependable modern-day performers.

Thunder skipper Phoebe Litchfield won the toss and opted to bowl first. Wareham, promoted to number four, made 23 off 19 balls as the Renegades posted 138/9 in their 20 overs. With the ball, she bowled three tidy overs for 22 runs without reward, returning figures of 3-0-22-0. The result was not the celebration she would have wanted, but her presence in a 100th match for one club is itself a statement of longevity in a competition renowned for its relentlessness.

Georgia Wareham’s Renegades journey began in the inaugural WBBL season, when she made her debut on 20th December 2015 against Brisbane Heat at Brisbane. More than a decade later, she stands fifth on the club’s all-time run-scoring list with 1,145 runs at a strike rate of 130.55 and an average of 30.13 in 59 innings across 100 matches. Her five half-centuries reflect a batter who has increasingly embraced responsibility in the middle order, blending calculated acceleration with the ability to rebuild when required.

Her most memorable batting innings for the Renegades came on 21st November 2024 against the Hobart Hurricanes. Coming in at number five, Wareham struck an unbeaten 69 from 45 balls, laced with six boundaries and three sixes, to propel Melbourne to 150/5. The Renegades won by 22 runs, and Wareham was named Player of the Match, a performance that captured her capacity to turn a promising start into a match-defining contribution.

The 2023 edition remains her best with the bat, when she amassed 295 runs at a strike rate of 134.09 and an average of 32.77 in 12 innings, including an unbeaten half-century in 14 matches. She backed it up superbly in the previous edition in 2025, scoring 277 runs at a strike rate of 147.34 and an average of 39.57 in nine innings, with a half-century in 10 matches. Those returns made her the Renegades’ leading run-scorer that season and confirmed her status as one of the competition’s most improved middle-order batters.

Yet Wareham’s greatest value to the Renegades has often come through the ball. Her leg-spin has brought 78 wickets at an average of 24.15 and an economy of 6.89 in 86 innings across 100 matches, making her the club’s third-highest wicket-taker. In WBBL 11, she was outstanding, claiming 19 wickets at 10.94 with an economy of 5.47 in 10 innings and 10 matches. That haul made her both the Renegades’ leading wicket-taker and the joint leading wicket-taker of the tournament alongside Sydney Sixers’ Ashleigh Gardner.

Her importance was central to the Renegades’ historic 2024 triumph, when Sophie Molineux’s side lifted their maiden WBBL title in the tournament’s 10th edition, defeating Brisbane Heat by seven runs in the final on 1st December 2024. Last season, however, the defending champions finished fifth with 10 points from 10 games, recording five wins and five defeats in the league stage.

Georgia Wareham will now look to convert her milestone into momentum when the Renegades face Sophie Devine’s Perth Scorchers at the W.A.C.A. in Perth on 31st October 2026, from 1:40 PM IST, in the fifth match of WBBL12. For a player whose career has been defined by adaptability, the next 100 appearances could be even more consequential.
