Childhood Journey of Niki Prasad

Born on October 25, 2005, in Bengaluru, Niki’s cricketing journey began at a young age. She started playing tennis-ball cricket when she was six before joining a cricket academy to develop her skills. Her progress through age-group cricket eventually earned her a place in Karnataka’s Under-19 team, followed by opportunities in India’s youth setup. After narrowly missing out on India’s Under-19 squad for the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup, she worked her way back into contention and eventually earned the captaincy for the 2025 edition. Under her leadership, India lifted their second Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup trophy, strengthening her reputation as a composed leader and a promising batting all-rounder.

Niki Prasad’s WPL Journey for Delhi Capitals

Her performances in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) have also contributed to her development. Representing Delhi Capitals, Prasad has played 18 WPL matches across the 2025 and 2026 seasons, scoring 153 runs in seven innings at an average of 30.60 and a strike rate of 119.53. Her highest score is 47, which came against Gujarat Giants in the 2026 season. She made an immediate impression on her WPL debut against Mumbai Indians in 2025, scoring 35 and earning the Player of the Match award. Although she is still developing her role in the Delhi Capitals lineup, the experience of sharing a dressing room with established international cricketers has given her valuable exposure to high-pressure T20 cricket.

Niki Prasad’s Domestic Credentials

The biggest boost to Niki Prasad’s India selection came during the India A series against Australia A in September and October 2026. She delivered impressive performances across formats, underlining her value as a genuine all-rounder. In the T20 format, she struck a fluent 54 off just 31 balls after India A found themselves in trouble. She followed that effort with an unbeaten 32 in the first one-day match. In the unofficial Test, she scored 91 in the first innings and claimed a five-wicket haul, finishing with seven wickets across two innings. These performances highlighted her ability to contribute in different conditions and strengthened her case for senior international cricket.

Niki Prasad’s Maiden International Call-Up

Prasad carried that confidence into her maiden T20I series against Zimbabwe. Making her international debut on October 16, 2026, she walked in with India struggling at 19/4 while chasing 115. Rather than allowing the pressure to dictate her approach, she partnered with Deepti Sharma to rebuild the innings. Her unbeaten 39 off 35 deliveries, including six boundaries, helped India secure a comfortable six-wicket victory. She followed it up in the second T20I by taking two wickets for just seven runs in two overs as India registered a nine-wicket win to take an unassailable 2-0 series lead.

The Rise of Niki Prasad

For Niki Prasad, this promising international start is the result of years of hard work across age-group cricket, domestic competitions and the WPL. Her ability to bat under pressure, contribute with off-spin and lead through her performances makes her an exciting prospect for India Women. While consistency at the senior level will be the next challenge, her maiden T20I series has already offered a glimpse of what she can bring to the team. At just 20, Prasad has plenty of cricket ahead of her, and her rise could become an important part of the next chapter of Indian women’s cricket.
