England have announced three squads for their Women A tour of India in November and December. The teams will face India Women A in T20, 50-over and four-day cricket, with seven matches planned before Christmas. At least 11 players across the squads have already played international cricket, bringing useful experience to the tour. The series will also give rising players a chance to show their ability and work towards future places in England’s senior teams.

Lauren Filer, Issy Wong and Tilly Corteen-Coleman feature in all three squads after being part of England’s run to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final. Mady Villiers and Jodi Grewcock, who also played international cricket this summer, are included in every format. Charis Pavely and Kira Chathli are among five more players selected across all three squads. Chathli captained England Women A in two home white-ball series against India A earlier this year.

Essex batter Grace Scrivens scored more runs than any other player from either side during the 2-1 ODI series defeat. She has been selected for the 50-over and four-day matches. Surrey bowler Ryana MacDonald-Gay took the most wickets during England’s 2-1 T20 series victory. She will feature in both white-ball squads for the upcoming tour.

Head coach Jon JJ Lewis explained that the selections are aimed at preparing players for future challenges as well as helping them develop at their current level. He said, “The selection for A squads is often about the bigger picture and getting ready for challenges further down the line.” He added that the teams include players considered next in line for senior England selection and those looking to establish themselves in the national side.

With the Ashes coming next summer, Lewis wants players competing for selection to gain valuable match experience, particularly in 50-over and four-day cricket. He also recognised that playing in India would be a tough challenge. India toured the UK during the summer and enjoyed some success, giving England a clear idea of the competition ahead. Lewis said, “We head to India with strong ambitions to be successful,” and added that the team was looking forward to the challenge.

England Women Performance Programme

Niamh Holland, Emma Jones, Cassidy McCarthy, Davina Perrin, Jemima Spence and Grace Thompson have been selected for the England Women Performance Programme. The captains for the three touring squads will be announced later.
