Mumbai Indians Sign Tara Norris From UP Warriorz for in All-Cash Trade Deal Ahead of WPL 2027

Mumbai Indians have secured USA left-arm seamer Tara Norris from UP Warriorz for her base price of INR 10 lakh, adding a proven Women’s Premier League (WPL) wicket-taker to their squad ahead of the fifth edition, scheduled from January 14 to February 7, 2027. The all-cash deal is only the second trade in the league’s history and gives MI an Associate-nation player who can help them field five overseas players in their playing XI.

Tara Norris first made her mark in the inaugural WPL in 2023, representing Delhi Capitals. She became the first Associate player to feature in the league and the first bowler to claim a five-wicket haul, taking 5 for 29 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Brabourne Stadium. Her wickets included Ellyse Perry, Heather Knight and Richa Ghosh. Across five appearances that season, Norris took seven wickets at an average of 26 and an economy rate of 4.33.

Delhi Capitals released Norris ahead of the 2024 season. UP Warriorz signed her for INR 10 lakh ahead of the 2025 auction, but she withdrew from that tournament after being called up to represent the USA at the Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier. The Warriorz retained her at the September 28 deadline before trading her to MI for the same fee.

The move reunites Norris with MI after a stint with MI London in the women’s Hundred earlier this year. She took four wickets in six outings for the London side, at an economy rate of 7.83. At the Mumbai franchise, she will also join head coach Luke Williams. Norris was part of Southern Brave in the 2021 Hundred when Williams served as an assistant coach to Charlotte Edwards.

MI have retained Harmanpreet Kaur, Amanjot Kaur, Amelia Kerr, Hayley Matthews, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Nicola Carey, Rahila Firdous, Sajeevan Sajana, Sanskriti Gupta, Shabnim Ismail and Vaishnavi Sharma. Norris joins a seam group that includes Ismail, Sciver-Brunt, Amanjot and Carey, adding another left-arm option as the two-time champions look to strengthen after finishing fourth in 2026 with six points from eight matches: three wins and five defeats.

The 2026 season marked the fourth edition of the WPL. MI won the inaugural title in 2023 and reclaimed the trophy in 2025, while RCB lifted the championship in 2024 and 2026. Delhi Capitals finished runners-up in each of the first four seasons. The trade follows RCB’s acquisition of England opener Danni Wyatt-Hodge from UP Warriorz ahead of the 2025 auction, the first deal of its kind in the WPL. Norris’s move makes UP Warriorz the common thread in both trades.

MI head into the mini auction in Kochi on October 28 with INR 90 lakh and six slots to fill, having completed their overseas quota with Norris’s signing. UP Warriorz, meanwhile, have INR 3.75 crore to spend on up to eight players, including a maximum of three overseas signings.
