Zimbabwe Women Retain 15-Member Squad for Historic India Tour as Josephine Nkomo Leads

Zimbabwe have retained the same 15-player squad for their six-match white-ball tour of India, backing the group that delivered the country’s first-ever ICC Women’s Championship victory. Josephine Nkomo will captain the side as Zimbabwe prepare for their first bilateral international meeting with India. The T20I series starts on 16 October. The team heads into the tour after beating West Indies by four wickets at Harare Sports Club on 27 September, a result that marked an important moment for Zimbabwean women’s cricket.

The selectors have kept the squad unchanged following that historic win, giving the same players another chance to build on their performance. Nyasha Gwanzura played a major role against West Indies, taking career-best figures of 4/33. She has been retained alongside Michelle Mavunga and Francisca Chipare. Zimbabwe will hope the confidence gained from their victory carries into the India tour as they prepare for six matches across two formats.

The series will open with three T20Is in Raipur. After the T20I matches, the teams will travel to Vadodara for the ODI series, which begins on 23 October. Those one-day matches will count towards the ICC Women’s Championship, giving Zimbabwe a chance to add points to their campaign. The team will first look to make a good start in the T20Is before focusing on the 50-over games and the points available there.

Zimbabwe’s batting choices include Modester Mupachikwa, Sharne Mayers, Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano, Kelis Ndhlovu and Beloved Biza. Captain Nkomo and Nomvelo Sibanda bring international experience to the group. By keeping the squad together, Zimbabwe have retained the players who helped secure their breakthrough result against West Indies. They will now face India in both formats and will look to make the most of the opportunities across the six fixtures.

The four-wicket win over West Indies on 27 September was Zimbabwe’s first-ever victory in the ICC Women’s Championship. Played at Harare Sports Club, the match became a landmark result for the side. Gwanzura’s career-best figures of 4/33 stood out in the performance and helped her retain her place in the touring squad. Zimbabwe will travel with the players who contributed to that achievement, hoping to carry the same belief into their next challenge.

Zimbabwe squad for India series 2026:

The tour will be Zimbabwe’s first bilateral international meeting with India. The three T20Is are scheduled in Raipur from 16 October, followed by the ODI series in Vadodara from 23 October. The ODI results will contribute to the ICC Women’s Championship, so those matches carry added importance for Zimbabwe’s campaign. The side will aim to settle into the tour during the T20I leg and then compete for valuable points in the one-day matches.

With the same squad travelling, Zimbabwe can continue working with the group that earned the historic win in September. Nkomo will guide the team through the T20Is before the players turn their attention to the ODIs. The six matches will test the squad in both formats, while the championship fixtures offer a chance to strengthen its campaign. Zimbabwe will look to begin well on 16 October and maintain their effort through the final match in India throughout this tour.
