Nineteen-year-old all-rounder Lucy Finn has agreed to stay with Sydney Thunder until at least the end of Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2027. Finn made a good first impression last season. In her campaign, she scored an unbeaten 49 against the Sydney Sixers and then dismissed Achleigh Gardner for her maiden WBBL wicket. She also made her WNCL debut for the NSW Breakers and produced important performances.
Finn’s biggest WNCL moment came against Tasmania when the Breakers were at 5-76. She responded with a fearless 64 and shared a 128-run partnership with WNCL champion Sarah Coyte. Their effort helped the Breakers win and stay unbeaten. Finn is now the second Thunder player to re-sign this season, following English legend Heather Knight, who signed again with the club last week. The deal keeps her with Thunder for two seasons.
Lucy Finn said: “Super excited to be back for another two seasons. Last year was a crazy experience. Sometimes I look back at it and don’t even believe that it happened because it was just so cool being out there with all my heroes.
“To have my family there at my first game as well was very special. I wasn’t even nervous, I just wanted to do my best when I got my chance. “It’s been really cool working with Lisa over the past couple of years with the Australian Under 19s program and now in the Thunder. She’s such a cool-headed character and she always knows the right thing to say at the right time. “
Sydney Thunder Head Coach Lisa Keightley praised Finn’s return and her progress. She highlighted her work with both bat and ball and her approach within the team. Keightley said: “Lucy is another talented young player we have on our list and someone we’re really excited to have back this season.
“We saw last year what she can do with both bat and ball. The way she stepped up to the challenge, dismissing players of the calibre of Ash Gardner and then making an impact with the bat, was fantastic to watch. “She fits really well into the culture of our group. She works hard, wants to keep learning, and is a great teammate. “Lucy is on an exciting development path, and we believe she has some special performances ahead of her.”

Finn’s re-signing comes after a debut season filled with important moments. Her unbeaten 49 against the Sydney Sixers, maiden WBBL wicket against Ashleigh Gardner, WNCL debut and 64 against Tasmania showed her ability to contribute. Her new contract keeps her with Sydney Thunder for two seasons. With her place secured through Weber WBBL 13, Finn will look to build on her start in lime green.
