Pratika Rawal has reportedly replaced Jemimah Rodrigues in India’s Asian Games squad. Rodrigues suffered a hamstring injury during her The Hundred stint with Southern Brave and was ruled out of the Asian Games and Asia Cup. The BCCI had earlier named Pratika as her replacement for the Asia Cup. According to IANS, Pratika’s name is now in the 15-member squad submitted for the Asian Games, and she will travel to Japan for the event.
A source in the BCCI confirmed the development to IANS. “Pratika will be travelling to Japan for the Asian Games as Jemimah’s replacement. Her name is there in the 15-member squad submitted for the Asian Games,” a source in the BCCI told IANS. Pratika had already joined India’s Asia Cup squad after Rodrigues was ruled out. She will now get another opportunity to remain with the national team. Her Asian Games selection comes soon after her T20I debut. It also gives her more experience in the shortest format.
Pratika made her T20I debut against Thailand in the Asia Cup and scored 22 runs. She then scored 10 against Hong Kong and managed four runs against Australia. Her performances in the shortest format have been difficult so far. Despite that, she has been picked for the Asian Games after first coming into the Asia Cup squad as Rodrigues’ replacement. Her record in the other international formats is stronger, particularly in ODIs. She will now have another chance to make an impact for India.
In the only Test she has played, Pratika has scored 81 runs. She has also played 27 ODIs and scored 1189 runs in the format. Her ODI tally includes two centuries and eight fifties. These numbers show that she has had a stronger record in the longer formats than in T20Is so far. Her Asian Games selection follows her maiden T20I call-up and Asia Cup opportunity. She will now travel to Japan as Rodrigues’ replacement.
Pratika had signed with Warwickshire to play white-ball cricket for the club. However, she could not travel to the UK after earning her maiden T20I call-up for India. Warwickshire said it was disappointed to lose her after looking forward to welcoming her for the remainder of the season. The club also said it still had a lot to play for in the remaining weeks and was confident in the squad available. It wished Pratika well in the Asia Cup and recognised the importance of representing her country.
“We were really looking forward to welcoming Pratika into our squad for the remainder of the season and we’re incredibly disappointed to lose her. That being said, we’ve still got a lot to play for in the remaining weeks of the season and we’re confident in the squad we have at our disposal. Playing for your country is the ultimate honour and we wish Pratika well in the Asia Cup,” Warwickshire said in a statement issued last month.

Pratika’s T20I numbers have been modest so far, while her ODI record includes 1189 runs, two centuries and eight fifties. She will now travel to Japan as Rodrigues’ replacement for the Asian Games.
The move gives Pratika another opportunity to continue with India after her Asia Cup call-up. Her selection also follows a busy period after her first T20I call-up, and the Asian Games will give her another chance to build experience while representing India at the international level.
