MI London have been dealt a significant setback in the 2026 Women’s Hundred, with experienced England top-order batter Danielle Wyatt-Hodge ruled out of the remainder of the competition due to a left calf tear.
The opener, who has been one of the few bright spots in an otherwise difficult campaign for MI London, will miss the franchise’s remaining fixtures after a scan and assessment by England’s medical team confirmed the extent of the injury.
Danielle Wyatt-Hodge picked up the problem during MI London’s narrow defeat to Southern Brave last week, a match in which she battled through discomfort to make an unbeaten 52. That knock underlined her value at the top of the order, especially in a tournament where MI London have struggled for consistency and results this season.
Her absence comes at a particularly tough time for the side, who were once again on the wrong end of a heavy result after suffering a six-wicket defeat to Manchester Super Giants at Kennington Oval, London, on 2 August 2026. The loss was another reminder of the challenges facing Hollie Armitage’s team, who remain rooted to the bottom of the points table with just two points from five matches. MI London are also the only side yet to register a win in the ongoing sixth edition of the competition, which runs from 21 July to 16 August 2026.
Despite the team’s struggles, Wyatt-Hodge has delivered with the bat. She is currently MI London’s joint leading run-scorer with 93 runs from three innings, striking at 132.85 and averaging 46.50. Her lone half-century, the unbeaten 52 against Southern Brave, has been a clear sign of her ability to anchor and accelerate in equal measure, while her opening partnership with Hayley Matthews has offered MI London their most reliable batting foundation in the tournament so far.
The franchise has moved quickly to cover the loss, naming wicketkeeper-batter Ella Claridge as Wyatt-Hodge’s replacement. Claridge, who represents The Blaze in domestic cricket, arrives with recent silverware in her locker after The Blaze’s success in the Vitality Blast at the Kia Oval. She scored 42 runs at a strike rate of 67.74 in 6 innings with the bat for her side in the tournament. She was due to link up with the squad ahead of the Manchester Super Giants clash, bringing additional depth and flexibility to the batting group.
For MI London, however, the challenge goes beyond simply filling a vacant opening slot. Losing a player of Wyatt-Hodge’s experience and form further reduces their margin for error in a season that has already slipped away from them. For Wyatt-Hodge, the priority will now be recovery, while MI London must regroup quickly and try to salvage pride from the closing stages of a difficult Hundred campaign.
