England Women have received a huge boost ahead of their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final against South Africa at The Oval, London, as captain Nat Sciver-Brunt has been declared fit and is available for selection after recovering from a calf injury. Her return comes at the right time as England hope to continue their unbeaten run and secure a place in the final on Thursday, July 2, 2026.

Sciver-Brunt picked up the injury during England’s group-stage match against Ireland in Southampton on Monday, June 16, 2026. She was batting well on 48 when she felt pain in her left calf and decided to walk off the field as a precaution, with England needing only a few more runs to win the match.
Scans later confirmed a left calf muscle strain. It was the same area that had troubled her earlier this year and had already forced her to miss England’s T20I series against New Zealand and India. Because of the injury, she missed England’s next three World Cup matches against Scotland, West Indies and Pakistan while continuing her recovery with the England medical team.
During her absence, vice-captain Charlie Dean took over as captain. England won all three matches without their regular skipper, stayed unbeaten throughout the group stage and comfortably reached the semi-finals, showing the quality and depth of their squad.
Now fully fit again, Sciver-Brunt is happy to be back and ready to help England in their biggest match of the tournament so far.
“Yeah, I am available for selection for the game tomorrow so yeah, really excited to be in a position to do that and rejoin the team again. They’ve done a brilliant job (England Women’s Cricket Team), obviously without me and you’re really excited, to hopefully yeah, play a brilliant game tomorrow night here at the Oval.”
Sciver-Brunt also praised England’s medical staff and said they worked extremely hard to help her recover in time for the knockout match.
“We literally threw everything at it, I’m really happy with where I am at physically. Myself and the medical team are really happy with where we’re at. Physically I’m able to take part in all of the game.”
Before getting injured, Sciver-Brunt had already shown excellent form. She scored 57 against India in a warm-up match before making an unbeaten 46 against Sri Lanka in England’s opening World Cup game. She then scored 48 against Ireland before having to leave the field because of the calf injury.
Her return is a huge boost for England because she plays an important role in every part of the game. Along with leading the team, she is one of England’s most reliable batters and also gives the team an important bowling option.
England have impressed throughout the tournament, with different players making important contributions. Charlie Dean led the side confidently while Sciver-Brunt was unavailable, and both the batting and bowling groups continued to perform well as England won every group-stage match.
Having their captain back gives England even more confidence before the semi-final. Her experience in big matches, calm leadership and ability to change games with both bat and ball make her one of the team’s most important players.
England now go into the semi-final with a full-strength squad and plenty of confidence. They will face a strong South African side, but Sciver-Brunt’s return gives England another big lift as they aim to reach the Women’s T20 World Cup final and move one step closer to lifting the trophy at Lord’s on Sunday, July 5, 2026.
