Qiana Joseph Completes 1000 International Runs During Women’s T20 World Cup Semi-Final

Qiana Joseph reached the 1,000 international runs landmark in the 1st semi-final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 at Kennington Oval, a personal milestone that arrived amid a disappointing West Indies defeat to Australia on 30 June 2026.

The 25-year-old all-rounder, needing nine runs before the match, became the latest Caribbean batter to join the four-figure club even as Australia, chasing 126, produced a clinical performance to win with eight wickets in hand and a record 42 balls to spare in a T20 World Cup semi-final.

Australia captain Sophie Molineux won the toss and elected to field, and Hayley Matthews and Joseph began positively with a 47-run opening stand that promised more. Matthews took the initiative, scoring briskly, while Joseph struggled to find timing and gaps, a scratchy, sometimes subdued 16 off 22 that included one maximum. Matthews’ departure for 30 (28) in the ninth over shifted the onus onto the middle order. Joseph’s dismissal in the 10th over provided Australia their second breakthrough and left the West Indies seeking momentum.

Despite intermittent resistance, Shemaine Campbelle (22 off 25), Chinelle Henry (10 off 11) and Janillea Glasgow (15 off 13) offering useful contributions, it was late cameo hitting from Deandra Dottin, battling through a medical condition, that nudged the total to a defendable-looking 125/7. Deandra Dottin’s unbeaten 26 off 16 offered the late impetus but ultimately proved insufficient on a day when Australia’s top order steamrolled the chase.

Australia’s chase was emphatic. Completing 126 in 13 overs, they not only secured their place in the final at Lord’s on 5 July 2026 but also set a new benchmark for a semi-final victory by balls remaining in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup history. For West Indies, the outcome was a harsh reminder that individual milestones can bring limited solace when collective execution falls short.

Qiana Joseph’s journey to this moment has been steady and multi-format. She made her ODI debut on 2 July 2017 against South Africa at Leicester and, in 31 ODIs, has accumulated 486 runs at a strike rate of 78.89 and an average of 19.44, including three fifties. In T20Is, since her debut on 31 August 2021 versus South Africa at North Sound, Joseph reached 521 runs in 40 matches at a strike rate of 113.26 and an average of 16.28, with two half-centuries. Her best T20I batting display remains the 63 (36) she struck against Bangladesh on 29 January 2025 at Basseterre, an innings that earned her Player of the Match as West Indies piled up 201/6 and won by 106 runs.

This tournament marked Joseph’s second ICC Women’s T20 World Cup appearance after debuting in 2024. Across both editions, she collected 138 runs at a strike rate of 106.97 and an average of 17.25; in the ongoing 2026 event, she finished with 39 runs at 82.97 SR in four innings. Joseph’s part-time left-arm spin and her development as a top-order batter underline her growing value to the West Indies setup.

Reaching 1,000 international runs is a notable personal landmark for Joseph, a testament to persistence and evolving skill, but on an afternoon at Kennington Oval it felt bittersweet. For West Indies, the focus now shifts from individual landmarks to sharpening the collective performance if they are to convert talent into consistent tournament success.
