Pakistan Women Name T20I Squad vs Zimbabwe; Amber Kainat Gets Maiden Call-Up

Pakistan’s women’s team, fresh off a commanding 3-0 sweep in the ODI leg of the tour, have announced their squad for the upcoming T20I series against Zimbabwe. The three-match series will be played in Karachi from May 12 to May 15, with Fatima Sana continuing as captain as Pakistan build towards the T20 World Cup.

The ODI series offered Pakistan a perfect lead-in, as they won the first match by 168 runs, the second by 206 runs, and sealed the clean sweep with a nine-wicket victory in the third ODI. That emphatic run of results has underlined the team’s strong form and given the management plenty of reasons for optimism heading into the shortest format.

Among the notable selections are uncapped players Amber Kainat and Saira Jabeen, both rewarded for their recent performances and potential. Amber, a right-arm fast bowler, impressed in the National Women’s T20 Tournament with 11 wickets in eight matches, while Saira had earlier been part of Pakistan’s T20I squad during the South Africa tour.

Pakistan’s squad also includes several established names who are expected to anchor the side, including Aliya Riaz, Muneeba Ali, Sadia Iqbal, Nashra Sundhu, Rameen Shamim and Tuba Hassan. The mix suggests Pakistan are using this series not only to win, but to fine-tune roles and depth before the global event.

Reserves List: Diana Baig, Momina Riasat, Sadaf Shamas, Sidra Amin, Syeda Aroob Shah

The reserves list is equally significant, featuring experienced campaigners Sidra Amin and Diana Baig. Sadaf Shamas is also among the reserves after a superb ODI series, where she emerged as the leading run-scorer of the series with scores of 99, 101 and 90, finishing with 289 runs at a strike rate of 85 and an average of 96.33 in three innings. Her form, which included a couple of half-centuries and a century, adds further depth to Pakistan’s batting options.

With the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 set to begin on June 12, Pakistan’s timing is ideal. Their campaign will begin against India, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, on June 14 at Edgbaston in Birmingham, starting at 7 PM IST. The Zimbabwe series will therefore serve as a key final preparatory stage, helping Pakistan settle on personnel and rhythm before one of the biggest fixtures in women’s cricket.

Pakistan’s recent ODI dominance, the return of proven performers, and the inclusion of promising new names all point to a squad being shaped with both present ambition and future planning in mind. For Fatima Sana and her side, the Zimbabwe T20Is are more than just another bilateral assignment; they are a direct stepping stone to the World Cup.
