Phoebe Litchfield is again in the news for her heroics. In this year’s Women’s National Cricket League champions, she helped her side Breakers to secure victory by smashing an unbeaten 82.
In the game against ACT Meteors where Breakers had to chase 177, the top order featuring Rachel Haynes, Alyssa Healy, and Ashleigh Gardner couldn’t contribute enough and the team was in a tough spot and then came out 16-year-old Phoebe Litchfield who made calmness her weapon, initially, she well stitched a partnership of 54 runs alongside Lauren Smith before Rene Farell joined her down the ground and they both stroked a partnership of 88 runs nearing side to the target score. In an unlikely situation, these crucial partnerships and sensible batting helped Breakers seal victory sparing two overs. Phoebe made 82 runs off 119 balls.
Farrell was no less on the field, she impressed with the ball as well by grabbing wickets of Meteors batters Claire Koski (6) and Anna Lanning (0) with consecutive deliveries and finishing with an impressive 3-12 from her seven overs.
The Meteors didn’t have a smooth sail on the field, when they were at 32 runs they were 3 wickets down but then a responsible 86-run partnership between experienced Erin Osborne (55) and young gun Carly Leeson (34) helped the Meteors cross the 100 run mark. They made 177 runs in total.
Phoebe Features for Sydney Thunders in WBBL, her impressive performance leads her to earn a spot in Australia A squad.
