The West Indies Women are getting ready for a much-awaited home series against one of the best teams in the world, Australia, with the 6-match series scheduled to take place from March 19th to April 2nd. West Indies has named their T20I squad, deciding to stick with the same team that played the last series at home. The series is expected to be a thrilling contest, with West Indies looking forward to challenging Australia.

The tour comes soon after West Indies Women hosted Sri Lanka. The hosts regrouped after a long time away and gained valuable experience, match fitness ahead of this testing series. Sri Lanka won the ODI series 2-1. However, West Indies Women ended the series on a high. In the last game of the series, captain Hayley Matthews scored a brilliant century that helped her team win the game by six wickets. This proved her ability to perform when her team needed her the most. The next part of the tour consisted of a three-match T20I series. The first game ended with no result, while Sri Lanka won the next two games.
The contests between West Indies Women and Australia in T20 Internationals (T20Is) have mostly been dominated by Australia over the years. The two teams have faced each other in 16 T20I matches, with Australia winning 14 of those games, while West Indies have managed to win just one. This record reflects Australia’s consistency and strength in the format, as they have often set the standard in women’s cricket. However, even with the one-sided record, matches between the two sides are usually competitive, and West Indies have always shown the ability to challenge the world’s top ranked teams.
The West Indies squad for the Australia series consists of both experienced players and young talents. The team has players like Stafanie Taylor and Deandra Dottin, who are experienced players who have the ability to win matches for their team. Matthews is also continuing to lead the team to victories as their captain. The West Indies’ wicket-keeper batter Shemaine Campbelle is also close to achieving a special milestone as she is expected to play her 150th T20I during the series. The West Indies also have young talents like Eboni Brathwaite and Jahzara Claxton who are full of enthusiasm to play for their national team.
Head coach Shane Deitz feels that this series will be a significant part of their preparations for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, which will be held in the UK later in the year. He stated, “It’s just before the World Cup, so it’s a great opportunity to see where we are in our preparation. Playing against the best team in the world, we can see where our deficiencies are and where things are working well as we look forward to the tournament in June in England.”
Following their T20I series in St. Vincent, both teams will move on to play a three-match ODI series at Warner Park. With experienced players, talented youngsters, and a desire to test their mettle against the best team in the world, West Indies Women will look to give their home crowd something to cheer about.
