The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will start its Women’s Premier League (WPL) participation according to their confirmation which CSK Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kasi Viswanathan made during an event in Tamil Nadu. CSK is finally looking forward to starting investing in their women’s cricket team because they have not participated in any since they became a dominant force in the IPL.

During the Invest in Tamil Nadu conclave Viswanathan provided an honest assessment of the franchise’s future development plans. He said that CSK will explore different opportunities “Not immediately but certainly in the coming years, CSK will expand its footprint. Our first target will be women’s cricket. We may also go into other sports over time,” he stated.

The WPL currently operates with five teams which include Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz. The major teams from the Indian Premier League which include Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad and other franchises have chosen to remain outside the competition till now.

The absence of these teams has created a demand among fans for more competitive matchups as they have in IPL which would include a CSK versus MI women’s match at Chepauk. The moment appears to be suitable. The WPL 2026 final will take place on February 5 in Vadodara, Gujarat. During the player auction Parth Jindal who co-owns Delhi Capitals revealed BCCI plans to grow its franchise operations.

Jindal said, “I think it is imminent that one or two new teams will come in at some point,” he believes that expansion will occur soon. He also mentioned changing the existing “caravan” system which requires matches to take place at two or three different locations into a system that allows each team to play their matches at their home venue.

As WPL 2026 moves toward its February 5 final with RCB already qualified, eliminator on February 3 pits Gujarat Giants against Delhi Capitals for the second spot in the final. Women’s cricket’s surging popularity fuels fiercer competition and investment, like CSK’s impending entry, promising explosive growth ahead.
