Deepti Sharma Becomes First Player to Achieve 1000 Runs and 150 Wickets in Women’s T20Is

In a historic moment for women’s cricket, 28-year-old Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma etched her name into the record books during the third T20I against Sri Lanka in Thiruvananthapuram on December 26, 2025. Becoming the first cricketer across men’s and women’s games to amass 1,000+ runs and 150+ wickets in T20Is, Sharma’s milestone underscores her unparalleled versatility.

With India leading the five-match bilateral series 3-0 under skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, Sharma’s return from a fever-enforced absence delivered a match-winning impact.

India, hosting Sri Lanka from December 21 to 30, crushed the first T20I by 8 wickets and the second by 7 wickets on December 23. Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss in the third and opted to bowl first, restricting Sri Lanka to 112/7.

Sharma, just two wickets shy of 150 ahead of the game, roared back with stellar figures of 4-0-18-3, equaling Renuka Singh Thakur’s 4-1-21-4 from earlier in the series. This haul made them joint leading wicket-takers with four scalps each in the ongoing series, propelling India to an 8-wicket victory and a series-clinching 3-0 lead with two games left.

Sharma’s spell not only triggered a collapse but also equaled Australian veteran Megan Schutt’s 151 wickets for the most in Women’s T20Is. Her economical mastery, conceding just 18 runs, highlighted why she remains India’s go-to all-round weapon.

Since her T20I debut against Australia in Sydney on January 31, 2016, following her ODI bow in Bengaluru against South Africa on November 28, 2014, Sharma has transformed into a format giant. In 131 matches, she boasts 1,100 runs at an average of 23.40 and a strike rate of 104.26 in 81 innings, including two half-centuries.

Her batting pinnacle arrived on October 4, 2022, against the UAE in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup at Sylhet, where she smashed 64 off 49 balls (5 fours, 2 sixes). India posted 178/5 and romped home by 104 runs.

With the ball, Sharma’s ledger reads 151 wickets in 128 innings at an average of 18.73 and an economy of 6.09, featuring a four-wicket haul. Her best came on November 10, 2019, against the West Indies in Gros Islet, St Lucia, 4-0-10-4, bundling them to 103/7. India chased it down in 10.3 overs for a 10-wicket romp, earning her Player of the Match.

This dual landmark, 1,000+ runs and 150+ wickets, sets Sharma apart in a career blending grit and flair. As England and Wales gear up for the 10th ICC Women’s T20 World Cup from June 12 to July 5, 2026, her form signals India’s championship intent. Sharma’s journey from debutant to pioneer inspires a generation, proving all-round dominance knows no gender bounds in T20 cricket.

Deepti Sharma will soon be in action in the upcoming 4th edition of the WPL from 9th January to 5th February 2025. The first phase of the tournament will be played at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, and the 2nd phase, including the knockouts and the grand finale, will take place at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara.

The UP Warriorz under the new head coach Abhishek Nayar, secured Deepti’s services for a whopping 3.20 CR via exercising an RTM option in the mega auctions on 27th November 2025.
