The glittering ICC Women’s ODI World Cup held from September 30 to November 2, 2025, culminated in India lifting its maiden senior-level ICC title. Under Harmanpreet Kaur’s impactful captaincy and Amol Muzumdar’s coaching guidance, India defeated South Africa by 52 runs in the final at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium. This victory marked a historic first for Indian women’s cricket and was celebrated as a milestone moment for the sport nationally. Legends like Mithali Raj, Jhulan Goswami, Anjum Chopra, and many other former legends shared emotional moments, commemorating the generations who built the foundation for this success.

Richa Ghosh’s on-field contribution was vital to the triumph. She accumulated 235 runs in the tournament at a striking strike rate of 133.52, averaging 39.16, including a vital half-century. In the final, her quickfire 34 runs in 24 balls helped push India closer to a 300-run mark in the first innings. Debuting in ODIs against Australia in 2021, Ghosh has already amassed 1,145 runs over 49 innings at a strike rate exceeding 103, with seven half-centuries. Her talent and aggressive batting style have made her a key asset for India, both behind the stumps and with the bat.

Following the World Cup success, the Bengal government recognised her exceptional achievements by appointing her as Deputy Superintendent of Police. A grand felicitation event held at Eden Gardens presented her with a golden bat and ball and the prestigious Banga Bhushan medal, personally handed over by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The government also awarded her Rs 34 lakh for every run scored in the World Cup final, emphasising the impact she made. Mamata Banerjee announced that a stadium would be named in Richa’s honour in Siliguri, a gesture to inspire cricket development in North Bengal.
