Former Australia All-Rounder Erin Osborne Named Somerset Women’s Head Coach Until 2028

Osborne’s arrival comes on the back of an international playing stint that began in 2009. Across 2 Tests, 60 ODIs, and 59 T20Is, she established herself as a reliable all-rounder, accumulating 121 wickets (5 in Tests, 68 in ODIs and 48 in T20Is) and 515 runs (78 in Tests, 359 in ODIs and 78 in T20Is). Her role in Australia’s World T20 triumphs of 2010, 2012, and 2014 placed her among a dominant generation that reshaped expectations of women’s cricket.

When she stepped away from playing in 2016, Osborne didn’t drift from the game—she stepped deeper into its structures. Her early coaching years with the ACT Meteors Development Squad showcased her instinctive feel for nurturing young talent. Soon after, she broke new ground as Cricket ACT’s Male Pathway Manager, becoming the first woman to hold that position. In 2024, she contributed to the Prime Minister’s XI coaching group for the match against India, before taking charge of the ACT Meteors as Head Coach—further strengthening her reputation as a program builder with a systemic eye.

Once the deal was sealed, Somerset introduced Osborne’s arrival by acknowledging the blend of enthusiasm and clarity she brings. With the spotlight firmly on her first words in Somerset colours, she shared the feeling that defined the moment, “I’m thrilled to be joining Somerset as Women’s Head Coach. This is an incredible opportunity to work with a club that has a proud history and a passionate supporter base.”

She added, “I look forward to building on the strong foundations already in place and working closely with the players, coaches, and support staff as we strive for continued growth and success.”

When Somerset Director of Cricket Andy Hurry contextualized the decision, he pointed to the depth of Osborne’s coaching path and the qualities that shaped her rise. He said, “Her coaching path to date has seen Erin gain a thorough understanding of how to construct effective programmes, inspire players, and improve performance across female and male pathways.”

He closed his statement by placing her appointment within the wider ambition of the club’s developing professional women’s setup. “These traits will prove invaluable as we look to build on the inaugural year of professional women’s cricket at the Cooper Associates County Ground,” he concluded.

As English domestic women’s cricket continues evolving at speed, Somerset’s decision to hand Osborne a three-year mandate reflects a belief in her global exposure, structural insight, and leadership instincts.
