The wedding celebrations of Indian cricket star Smriti Mandhana and music composer Palash Muchhal, which had been unfolding over a week in Sangli, Maharashtra, came to an abrupt halt after a series of sudden medical emergencies in both families. What was meant to be a grand ceremony on Sunday was paused indefinitely, with the couple and their families choosing to prioritise health over festivities.

The first setback occurred when Smriti’s father, Srinivas Mandhana, developed worrying chest symptoms that resembled a cardiac emergency. Swift action followed at the wedding venue as an ambulance arrived promptly, and he was rushed to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment.
His condition was later confirmed to be angina, and according to Smriti’s family physician, Dr. Naman Shah, a full medical team continues to monitor him closely. Dr. Shah also indicated that Mr. Srinivas may be discharged soon if he shows the expected improvement.
As the families focused on Mr. Srinivas’ health, another health concern surfaced, this time involving the groom. Palaash Muchhal experienced a sudden dip in health due to a viral infection and increased acidity, requiring medical attention at a private hospital. Fortunately, the issue was not serious, and after receiving treatment, he was discharged and returned to Mumbai.
With both families navigating back-to-back emergencies, the celebrations were paused. Ahead of this decision, a week-long lineup of ceremonies and traditions had already been underway in Sangli, making the sudden interruption even more striking.
Amid the speculation that naturally follows any high-profile wedding, Palash’s sister, Palak Muchhal, addressed the situation publicly. Before sharing her message, she clarified that the step was taken solely to ensure privacy and compassion for the families involved.
She wrote on her Instagram story, “Due to Smriti’s dad’s health, Smriti and Palash’s wedding has been put on hold. We request all of you to respect the privacy of the families during this sensitive time,” she posted.
Events on Sunday came to a standstill the moment the Mandhana family realised Mr. Srinivas would not be able to attend or participate in the ceremony. Smriti chose not to continue with the rituals without her father present, making it clear that family health mattered above all else.
As of now, the entire wedding programme has been postponed indefinitely, and the rescheduled date will depend entirely on how quickly Mr. Srinivas recovers. Both families have stepped back from festivities to focus on well-being, with the understanding that celebrations can always resume once health is restored.
