The wedding of Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana and music composer Palash Muchhal has been indefinitely postponed after Smriti’s father, Srinivas Mandhana, suffered a sudden cardiac emergency. The family had been preparing for the ceremony when he became unwell.

He was immediately taken to a private hospital in Sangli, and the authorities later confirmed that his condition is stable, but he remains under observation.
Tuhin Mishra, Smriti’s manager, described how the health scare unfolded, “Today in the morning when he was having breakfast, Smriti Mandana’s father, Mr. Srinivas Mandhana, got unwell. We waited for a while. We thought that maybe it’s normal, he will be fine. But he was getting worse. So, we thought, let’s not take any risk, so we called an ambulance and took him to the hospital. Now he is under observation.”
He added that Smriti, who is extremely close to her father, immediately decided to postpone the wedding until he recovers. “You know Smriti is very close to her father. She decided that until her father gets well, this marriage, which was supposed to happen today, is indefinitely postponed. Now he is under observation, and the doctor has said that he will have to stay in the hospital. And until he gets well, because we are also in shock, and we want him to recover soon,” he added.
Doctors at Sarvhit Hospital and Clinical Research Centre reported that Srinivas Mandhana experienced angina pectoris, a form of chest pain associated with coronary heart disease. He suffered the episode around 1.30 PM and was admitted at 2.15 PM. His blood pressure remained elevated, prompting medical staff to admit him to the ICU for monitoring.
“He suffered angina around 1.30 PM and was admitted to our hospital at 2.15 PM. He is currently in the Intensive Care Unit. We have conducted a few tests and started medication. On Monday morning, we will run further tests and then decide whether angiography is required,” said Naman Shah, neuro physician and chairman of Sarvhit Hospital and Clinical Research Centre.
With the family focused entirely on his recovery, the planned celebrations have come to a halt. The wedding management team has already begun removing decorations from the Samdol venue, and the families have requested privacy during this time.
Smriti and Palash were expected to tie the knot on November 23 in Sangli, surrounded by close relatives and several members of India’s Women’s World Cup-winning team. In the days leading up to the ceremony, social media was filled with glimpses of their elaborate pre-wedding festivities, including vibrant Haldi and Mehendi ceremonies and even light-hearted cricket matches between teams led by the bride and groom.
