Adelaide Strikers’ Megan Schutt Becomes First Pacer to Claim 150 WBBL Wickets

Adelaide Oval has hosted many special moments in women’s cricket, but at the nearby Karen Rolton Oval, the city’s own Megan Schutt etched another chapter into WBBL history. The 32-year-old Adelaide Strikers spearhead became the first pacer, and overall, just the fourth bowler, to claim 150 wickets in the Women’s Big Bash League.

The landmark came in the ninth match of the ongoing WBBL 11 season (2025) against the visiting side, marking a proud milestone for one of the competition’s most consistent performers. Schutt’s figures of 4-0-39-1 might not fully capture the enormity of the achievement, but they underscore the unrelenting accuracy and resilience that have defined her decade-long WBBL journey. Her Strikers sealed a convincing 7-wicket win, adding a collective touch of celebration to the individual milestone.

Schutt’s WBBL story traces back to December 12, 2015, her debut match for the Adelaide Strikers against the Hobart Hurricanes in Launceston. On that day, she announced herself in emphatic fashion with match figures of 4-1-8-3, a spell brimming with swing and precision. Although Adelaide lost narrowly by two runs, Schutt’s opening act set the tone for what would become one of the most decorated careers in the league. Ten seasons later, she continues to lead the Strikers’ attack with a blend of control, experience, and tactical awareness that few seamers in the women’s game can match.

Across 138 innings since her debut, Schutt has now claimed 150 wickets at a fine average of 20.61 and an economy rate of 5.99, remarkable numbers for a fast bowler in a format so unforgiving to pace. Her consistency has been key to Adelaide’s emergence as one of the most competitive WBBL outfits over the years. Along the way, she has produced standout spells, including two four-wicket hauls and one five-wicket haul, often delivering in high-stakes matches.

Her career-best performance remains etched in WBBL memory, a sensational 6 for 19 against Sydney Thunder on November 20, 2022, at North Sydney Oval. That clinical burst, spanning just 3.3 overs, dismantled the Thunder’s chase of 145 and secured a 26-run victory for the Strikers, earning Schutt a richly deserved Player of the Match award.

With this milestone, Schutt joins an exclusive group of WBBL bowlers to have reached the 150-wicket mark, fellow Australian stalwarts Jess Jonassen, Molly Strano, and her Adelaide Strikers teammate Amanda-Jade Wellington. Yet among this quartet, Schutt stands alone as the first fast bowler to achieve the feat, further highlighting her durability and impact in a tournament dominated numerically by spinners. Her achievement reaffirms the value of pace in balance with precision, hallmarks that have defined both her domestic and international careers.

From Launceston to Adelaide, Schutt’s evolution mirrors that of the WBBL itself, from inaugural experiments to one of the world’s premier T20 competitions. Every wicket she has claimed tells part of that growth story: the breakthroughs with the new ball, the cutters in death overs, and the leadership she brings within the Strikers’ setup. As she becomes the league’s first pacer to scale the 150-wicket peak, Megan Schutt’s name cements its rightful place among WBBL’s immortal figures, a model of endurance, class, and craft from South Australia’s heart.
