In a proud moment for Indian cricket, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet the Indian women’s team on Wednesday, November 5, in New Delhi to celebrate their historic triumph in the 2025 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup.

Led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, India produced an extraordinary turnaround in the tournament, defeating South Africa in a thrilling final to claim their maiden World Cup title. The campaign was nothing short of a fairytale, especially after the team bounced back strongly from three early defeats in the group stage.
According to reports, the Prime Minister’s Office extended a formal invitation to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) earlier this week. The squad, currently in Mumbai, is expected to fly to the capital on Tuesday evening. Following the meeting with the Prime Minister, the players and management will disperse for a well-deserved break with their families.
While a grand public celebration has not been announced yet, the BCCI has confirmed a cash reward of Rs 51 crore for the team. This gesture of appreciation will be distributed among players, coaches, support staff, and the national selectors. It is understood that each player and the head coach will receive about Rs 2.5 to Rs 3 crore, while the assistant coaches and other staff members will get between Rs 25 and Rs 30 lakh.
Congratulating the team shortly after their stunning victory, Prime Minister Modi posted on X, “A spectacular win by the Indian team in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Finals. Their performance in the final was marked by great skill and confidence. The team showed exceptional teamwork and tenacity throughout the tournament. Congratulations to our players. This historic win will motivate future champions to take up sports.”
India’s World Cup journey began with commanding wins over Sri Lanka and Pakistan but soon tested their mettle through close losses to South Africa, Australia, and England. Undeterred, Harmanpreet Kaur’s team struck back with a strong win over New Zealand, while the Bangladesh match ended without result.
Their resilience peaked in the semifinal, where they chased down Australia’s mammoth 339—a record in women’s ODIs. On a magical night in Navi Mumbai, India crowned their dream run by defending 298 against South Africa to seal a historic 52-run triumph and their first world title.
The meeting in Delhi will cap off a dream few months for the Harmanpreet-led side—one that has redefined the landscape of women’s cricket in India and inspired the next generation of athletes.
