The 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup promises to be a defining chapter for South Africa Women. Since finishing as semi-finalists in New Zealand in 2022, the team has been eager to go two steps further and stake their claim for a maiden title. Having competed in every edition since their debut in 1997, they are no strangers to the global stage, but a World Cup trophy has so far eluded them, with semi-final finishes in 2000, 2017, and 2022 marking their best results.
The year 2025 has brought a mix of results for South Africa, with 5 wins from 10 outings. Yet, certain individuals have consistently shone. Tazmin Brits tops the batting charts with 643 runs, followed by Laura Wolvaardt’s 348. Nonkululeko Mlaba has been the spearhead of the bowling attack with 15 wickets in 8 games, while Nadine de Klerk chipped in with 10 wickets from 8 matches.
South Africa’s journey has not been smooth. In the Tri-Nation Series against India and hosts Sri Lanka, they managed just one win from four games. Despite the overall results, Suné Dercksen’s form stood out, finishing as the series’ highest run-scorer with 276, while Chloe Tryon contributed six wickets.
The tide turned during the West Indies tour in June, where they secured a 2-1 series win. Brits amassed 184 runs, Wolvaardt added 130, and Mlaba impressed with 7 wickets across three matches.
Ahead of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, South Africa toured Pakistan in September for three ODIs, fine-tuning their combinations. They started strong, winning the first two matches—successfully chasing 255/4 in the opener and defending 292/3 in the second to claim a DLS victory.
However, they stumbled in the third ODI, bowled out for 115 and losing by six wickets. Brits led the batting charts once again with 272 runs from 2 innings, and de Klerk topped the bowling with five wickets from two games.
