A wily slow left-arm orthodox bowler and handy right-handed batter, Nahida has steadily established herself as one of the most reliable performers in Bangladesh’s bowling attack. From her teenage debut to becoming the team’s frontline spinner, she has been central to many of the side’s breakthrough moments on the international stage.

Nahida Akter’s International Career

Nahida made her international debut as a 15-year-old against Pakistan in September 2015. Even as a youngster, her composure and control with the ball stood out, and it wasn’t long before she became a regular feature in Bangladesh’s line-up.

Her rise coincided with Bangladesh’s most significant triumph to date, the 2018 Women’s Asia Cup, where the team stunned India in the final to lift their maiden major title. Nahida’s role as a steady spinner was crucial in providing breakthroughs and applying pressure in the middle overs.

In the 2019 ICC Women’s World T20 Qualifier in Scotland, Nahida finished as Bangladesh’s leading wicket-taker with 10 wickets in five matches, once again proving her effectiveness on the global stage. She followed that up by helping Bangladesh clinch the gold medal at the 2019 South Asian Games, where the team edged Sri Lanka in a thrilling final.

Nahida has developed a reputation for producing game-changing spells. In November 2021, during the Women’s World Cup Qualifier against Zimbabwe, she picked up her maiden five-wicket haul in ODIs (5/21), a performance that signaled her arrival as Bangladesh’s strike bowler in the longer format. By 2025, Nahida had played 52 ODI innings, claiming 69 wickets, with her best figures of 5/21 highlighting her match-winning capability.
