A right-arm off-break bowler and right-hand batter, who has quickly risen from youth cricket to international representation. Still just in her teens, Sumaiya has already showcased glimpses of her potential, balancing her craft with the hunger to establish herself as a dependable all-rounder for the Bangladesh women’s national cricket team.

Sumaiya’s cricketing journey took an important step when she was selected in Bangladesh’s Under-19 squad for the 2023 ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup. On the global stage, she demonstrated calmness under pressure, finishing the tournament with 65 runs at an average of 21.66. Her most notable contribution came against Australia’s U19 team, where she remained unbeaten on 31, anchoring the innings with maturity beyond her years. Performances like these highlighted her all-round credentials and earned her attention from senior team selectors.

Sumaiya Akter’s International Career

Sumaiya’s consistency at the junior level paid off in October 2023, when she was handed her maiden call-up to Bangladesh’s ODI and T20I squads for the series against Pakistan. She went on to make her T20 International debut against Pakistan on 29 October 2023, marking the start of her senior international career. Just a month later, she was again trusted with places in both formats for Bangladesh’s tour of South Africa, reflecting the management’s belief in her long-term potential.

Her progression continued in March 2024, when she earned a place in the squad for both the ODI and T20I series against Australia, one of the toughest challenges in world cricket. On 27 March 2024, she made her One Day International debut against the reigning world champions, Australia, a moment that signified her rapid growth from U19 cricket to the highest stage.

While Sumaiya has broken into both white-ball formats, she is still searching for her breakthrough. As a young all-rounder adjusting to the intensity and demands of international cricket, her early outings have been more about gaining valuable experience rather than producing match-defining performances. However, her natural ability with the bat and ball, combined with her adaptability, suggests that it is only a matter of time before she finds her rhythm and begins contributing consistently.
