India play first T20I match without Smriti Mandhana since 2015

India’s star opening batter, Smriti Mandhana has now played 56 consecutive T20I matches for India and this streak was broken yesterday after a period of 4 years and 4 months. Smriti also has a record of the longest streak for not missing a T20I game for Team India.

Smriti Mandhana was out for yesterday’s game that took place between India and the West Indies at the Providence Stadium, Guyana. This is the first time since July 2015 that the women in blue have played a T20I game without Smriti being there in the playing 11!

Smriti’s streak of 56 matches is one among the top 10 in the women’s cricket world. The list begins with Pakistan’s Sana Mir, having played 73 consecutive games for her side, followed by Alyssa Healy (72*), M du Preez (71), Suzie Bates (66), Deandra Dottin (61), Rumana Ahmed (58), Mary Waldron (58) and Smriti at the 8th position with 56 matches.

India are currently touring the West Indies and are leading the T20I series 4-0. The openers, Shafali Verma and Smriti have stitched a couple of terrific opening partnerships and won games for the Indian side.
