Women’s cricket in Uttarakhand is witnessing a new chapter with the arrival of the second edition of the Women’s Uttarakhand Premier League (WUPL). After debuting last year with three teams, the tournament expands to four this season, promising more competition, more talent, and more drama.

Beginning on 23rd September, the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Dehradun will once again be the stage where the state’s women cricketers showcase their passion and skill.

The 2024 edition, though compact, gave a glimpse of the potential of women’s cricket in the region. The season opened with a rain-affected clash between Nainital SG Pipers and Pithoragarh Hurricanes, which ended without a ball being bowled. Nainital then defeated Mussoorie Thunders by 7 wickets in their first completed match, chasing 97 with ease. Mussoorie, however, struck back strongly by defeating Pithoragarh by 8 wickets after chasing 120.

That set up a thrilling final between Nainital and Mussoorie, where the Thunders chased down 119 and won by 3 wickets to lift the inaugural WUPL trophy. Star performers emerged too — Mussoorie’s Nandini Kashyap finished as the leading run-getter with 123 runs in 3 innings, while Nainital’s Gunjan Bhandari topped the bowling charts with 5 wickets.

For the 2025 edition, the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand has announced both uncapped and capped players’ lists, widening the pool of talent and ensuring every corner of the state is represented.
