Running until August 3, the series is being positioned as a crucial developmental opportunity for emerging female talent in the region, providing young cricketers with valuable international exposure and competitive experience.

Trinidadian off-spinner Samara Ramnath has been named captain of the West Indies Under-19 Women’s team for the upcoming five-match T20 series against the USA. Ramnath brings leadership experience and calm under pressure, having previously captained West Indies at the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia earlier this year.

Sixteen-year-old Barbadian all-rounder Theanny Herbert-Mayers will serve as vice-captain. She recently led Barbados to victory in the Rising Stars Under-19 35-over Championship.

The squad was selected following the conclusion of that same regional tournament, which highlighted a strong pool of emerging talent. Among those earning spots in the final squad are Jamaican Abigail Bryce and off-spinning all-rounder NaiJanni Cumberbatch, who finished as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker, along with 16-year-old Amrita Ramtahal and 17-year-old Brianna Harricharan.

Both the West Indies and the USA Under-19 Women’s teams made it to the Super 6 stage of the 2025 ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia, and their upcoming T20 series marks the third bilateral meeting between the sides.

The previous encounters took place in 2022 at the Central Broward Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida. The most recent bilateral series between the West Indies and USA Under-19 Women’s teams took place in July 2024 at the Sir Frank Worrell Cricket Ground. The closely contested five-match T20 series ended in a 2-2 draw, with one match abandoned due to rain.

The 2024 series was played at the same Sir Frank Worrell Cricket Ground in Trinidad and Tobago where this year’s matches will be held. During the July 2024 series, NaiJanni Cumberbatch emerged as a key performer for the West Indies Under-19 Women’s team, finishing as the second-highest run-scorer of the series.

Captain Samara Ramnath, who will lead the side in the upcoming series, also made a strong impact with her all-round performance, contributing 48 runs and taking four wickets, underlining her value as a dependable leader and versatile player.

Leading the West Indies setup once again is former captain Merissa Aguilleira, who continues as head coach following her successful stint guiding Trinidad and Tobago to the Women’s Super50 title earlier this year. She is joined by former West Indies players Tremayne Smartt and Ryan Hinds as assistant coaches. Yasmine St. Ange, a former Windward Islands fast bowler and captain, will serve as the team manager.

All five matches in the West Indies Under-19 Women’s T20 series against the USA will begin at 10:00 AM local time and will be played at the Sir Frank Worrell Cricket Ground in St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago. The matches will be streamed live on the Cricket West Indies YouTube channel, giving fans across the Caribbean and around the world a chance to watch the next generation of women’s cricket talent in action.
