Hosts Rwanda Announce Squad for the 2025 Kwibuka Women’s T20 Tournament, Marie Bimenyimana to Lead

The Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) has officially announced the national squad set to compete in the 11th edition of the Kwibuka Women’s T20 Tournament. The annual event, which honours the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, will take place from June 3rd to June 14th, 2025.

Rwanda has an impressive record in the T20Is with an impressive win percentage of 57 in the format so far. In the previous assignment, Rwanda hosted Kenya for a five-match T20I series, winning by a 3-2 margin.

In the previous i.e the 10th edition of the Kwibuka Women’s T20 Tournament, they finished their campaign in 3rd position, with 10 points from 7 games, including five victories and a couple of defeats against Uganda and Nigeria in the league stages. They eventually won 3rd place play-off by 6 wickets against Nigeria. Heading into the 11th edition, they would be keen to rectify their mistakes and add a 2nd title into their trophy cabinet.

Marie Bimenyimana will lead the team, bringing her experience to the forefront as captain. The squad is a blend of seasoned players and promising young talents, reflecting Rwanda’s commitment to developing women’s cricket.

Marie Bimenyimana (C), Alice Ikuzwe, Georgette Ingabire, Rosine Irera, Henriette Ishimwe, Immaculee Muhawenimana, Belise Murekatete, Shakila Niyomuhoza, Rosette Shimwamana, Clarrisse Umutoniwase, Sylvia Usabyimana, Geovanis Uwase, Merveille Uwase (wk), and Sarah Uwera (wk)

The addition of Merveille Uwase and Sarah Uwera would add strength to the batting lineup. This year’s tournament is anticipated to be highly competitive, with teams from across the continent participating. The Rwandan squad, having shown steady improvement in recent tournaments, is aiming to build on last year’s momentum and deliver a strong performance at home.
