Surrey sealed a comfortable 17-run win over Essex in the 5th-place play-off of the 2025 Abu Dhabi Women’s T20 Counties Super Cup. Tasmania, led by skipper Elyse Villani, was up against ECB Women, led by skipper Esha Oza, in the 3rd-place play-off.

Top-order and Elyse Villani fire Tasmania to a massive total of 188/5

Tasmanian openers Ruth Johnston and Rachel Trenaman got their side off to a blazing start with a massive 81-run opening partnership. The pair scored at over 8 runs an over. Vaishnave Mahesh broke the ominous stand by removing Rachel Trenaman (37 off 27 balls) in the 10th over of the innings, to provide the much-needed first breakthrough for ECB.

Tasmania suffered a mini collapse as they lost their next three wickets for just seven runs, finding themselves in deep trouble at 88/4 in the 12th over of the innings, throwing away a solid start. Hayley Silver-Holmes joined Nicola Carey at the crease and the duo revived their side with a much-needed 63-run partnership for the 5th wicket taking them past the 150-run mark.

Kavisha Egodage broke the stand by sending Hayley Silver-Holmes (26 off 14 balls) back to the pavilion to provide the 5th breakthrough for their side in the 18th over of the innings. Skipper Elyse Villani stepped in and played a breezy cameo (31* off 10 balls) towards the end to skyrocket the total closer to the 200-run mark. Nicola Carey (45* off 30 balls) and Ruth Johnston (41 off 32 balls) chipped in with vital contributions with the bat for Tasmania.

Kavisha Egodage (4-0-40-3), was the stand-out performer with the ball, while Suraksha Kotte (3-0-21-0), and Vaishnave Mahesh (2-0-19-1) were impressive with the ball for ECB.

Clinical bowling efforts sees Tasmania fold ECB Women for 98

Chasing a massive total of 189, the ECB batters succumbed to the scoreboard pressure. As a result, they were bundled out for just 98 with five balls to spare. Vaishnave Mahesh (18 off 18 balls), Michelle Botha (14 off 22 balls), skipper Esha Oza (10 off 9 balls), and Suraksha Kotte (10 off 19 balls) were the only batters to enter the double digits with the bat for ECB.

Callie Wilson (4-0-29-3), Lauren Smith (3.1-0-7-2), Maisey Gibson (3-1-9-1), and Ruth Johnston (3-0-9-1) were the stand-out performers with the ball for Tasmania.
