Captain Harshitha Samarawickrama leads Sri Lanka to a 4-wicket win over Bangladesh – Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2019
Sri Lanka Women’s Emerging Team captain, Harshitha Samarawickrama played a brilliant knock as she led her team to a prolific victory over Bangladesh in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The match between the two sides saw an all-round performance from Team Sri Lanka that bowled out their Bangladesh counterpart and then chased the target set by them.
Bangladesh won the toss at RPICS, Colombo and elected to bat first. Opener Murshida Khatun made 15 runs while Captain Sharmila Khatun made 10 runs. Fahima Khatun 21(54) and Nahida Akter 19(26) also played handy knocks. The highest runs came from number 8 batter Sobhana Mostary who made 29 runs off 30 balls. Sri Lanka’s Kaveesha Dilhari Welikonthage took 3 wickets as Bangladesh were bundled out in 48.3 overs scoring 127 runs.
Sri Lanka had a tricky start as they lost opener Hasini Withanage for 4 in early overs. Bangladesh bowled well as Nahida Akter bagged 3 wickets. But a higher run rate ensured that Sri Lanka were never out of the game. Harshitha Samarawickrama played a captain’s knock as she made a valiant half-century. Her 83-ball 53 was studded with as many as 8 boundaries. Umesha Thimeshani made 18 runs off 44 balls. Sri Lanka chased the target in 34 overs.
