Her international career began on April 1, 2019, at the age of 33, when she made her debut against Botswana in Windhoek. Defying stereotypes about age in international cricket, Irene quickly became a key figure in the Namibian women’s team. Her rise from debutant to captain reflected not only her skill but also the immense respect she commanded within and beyond the squad.

As a right-arm medium pacer, she played 67 Women’s T20 Internationals, delivering 1,168 balls and taking 47 wickets. With an impressive economy rate of 4.64 and a bowling average of 19.25, she consistently put opposition batters under pressure. One of her most memorable performances came against Sierra Leone, where she dismantled the batting lineup with stunning figures of 4/7.

While primarily known for her bowling, Irene also made valuable contributions with the bat. Across 42 innings, she accumulated 270 runs, with her highest score being 23. Though not a specialist batter, she was always willing to step up when her team needed her, embodying the true spirit of a team player.

Beyond her on-field performances, Irene’s influence extended far beyond the boundary ropes. As captain of the Capricorn Eagles, national women’s team, she led with composure and confidence, inspiring the next generation of Namibian cricketers. Her leadership played a crucial role in shaping the team’s growth and fostering a strong team culture.
