It’s almost that time of the year again, as the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup approaches. Scheduled to be played in India later this year, the tournament will be preceded by the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifiers which is scheduled to be held in Pakistan in April 2025 and will serve as the final qualification stage of the 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup.

The tournament will be the sixth edition of the Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier. The ICC announced the format of the qualifier in 2022, stating that the bottom four teams (7th-10th) from the 2022/23–2025 ICC Women’s Championship would be joined by two other teams selected according to the Women’s ODI Team Rankings, in a 6-team tournament.
One such team that will be playing the qualifiers is Scotland. Ready to begin their preparation for the tournament, a 16-member squad of Scottish players will spend six days in Spain, and will be supported by head coach Craig Wallace, Joe Kinghorn-Gray (Assistant Coach) and Amy Caswell (Physio).
The travelling squad members will take part in a specialised programme which will involve several intensive training sessions, including two days of centre-wicket practice. The aim of the training camp is to familiarise the players with spin friendly conditions with the tournament being played in the subcontinent. The Scottish squad that will partake in these sessions is as follows:
Abbi Aitken-Drummond, Kathryn Bryce, Darcey Carter, Priyanaz Chatterji, Maryam Faisal, Katherine Fraser, Lucy Forrester Smith, Ailsa Lister, Maisie Maceira, Abtaha Maqsood, Kirsty McColl, Niamh Muir, Hannah Rainey, Nayma Sheikh, Rachel Slater, Ellen Watson
The squad features a mix and balance of experience and youth combined. Led by veteran Kathryn Bryce the squad also includes key all-rounders like Abbi Aitken-Drummond and Priyanaz Chatterji.
Some of the notable inclusion in the squad are young stars Maisie Maceira and Nayma Sheikh, both previously shining at the Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup. The ever-reliable Abtaha Maqsood adds depth to the spin attack, while Ailsa Lister and Ellen Watson bolster the batting unit.
In May last year, Scotland confirmed their first-ever appearance at the T20 World Cup and will hope to dominate in the World Cup Qualifier in Pakistan but face strong competition from Pakistan, West Indies, Ireland, Bangladesh and Thailand.
