The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) unveiled a stand at the famous Eden Gardens in honour of legendary cricketer Jhulan Goswami, the former captain of the India women’s cricket team, in a grand tribute.

The first India-England Twenty20 International was held at her home ground of Eden Gardens, where former Indian cricketer Jhulan Goswami expressed her happiness at the opening of a stand named after her. She said it felt like a dream “she never dared to imagine.” CAB President Snehasish Ganguly formally unveiled the stands prior to the match.
Born in Chakda, West Bengal, on November 25, 1982, Goswami began playing for the Indian women’s national team in 2002 and retired in 2022, leaving an unmatched legacy as one of cricket’s greatest bowlers.
With 255 wickets in 204 matches, she became the highest wicket-taker in Women’s One Day Internationals (ODIs), earning her the ICC Women’s Player of the Year Award (2007), the Arjuna Award (2010), and the Padma Shri (2012). She was the fastest female bowler in the world and captained the Indian team from 2008 to 2011.
Taking to X, Goswami posted, “As a young girl, I always dreamt of playing cricket at Eden Gardens. Today, standing in front of a stand with my name on it feels like a dream I never dared to imagine. Thank you to everyone who’s been part of my cricketing journey”
“Today is a special moment as we rename stands after two great individuals, Col N.J. Nair and Jhulan,” remarked Sourav Ganguly, a former BCCI and CAB President who was also present for the event. Both of them have made significant contributions to respective fields. While Jhulan has made India proud on the cricket pitch, Col. Nair’s service in the Indian Army has made the country proud.
Along with other CAB officials and members, CAB Honorary Joint Secretary Debabrata Das, CAB Honorary Secretary Naresh Ojha, CAB Vice President Amalendu Biswas, and CAB Treasurer Prabir Chakrabarty were also present for the event.
Goswami was there at the venue and carried out the customary task of ringing the bell prior to the commencement of the first T20I match. In addition to her enormous achievements in cricket, this moving honour highlights the fact that she inspired countless young girls all around the country.
