A complete performance delivers another emphatic victory for Sri Lanka U19

The Sri Lankan openers Sanjana Kavindi and wicket-keeper batter Sumudu Nisansala got their side off to another flying start with a 54-run opening partnership, after skipper Manudi Nanayakkara won the toss and opted to bat first. The pair scored at a rate of over 8 runs an over. Kenika Cassar cleaned up the wicket-keeper batter Sumudu Nisansala (19 off 22 balls) to provide the first breakthrough for the West Indies in the 7th over of the innings. It also eventually turned out to be the highest partnership of the innings with the bat for Sri Lanka.

Substantial partnerships throughout the innings powered Sri Lanka to a massive total of 166/5 in their quota of 20 overs. Skipper Manudi Nanayakkara (41 off 31 balls) top scored with the bat for Sri Lanka, alongside Sanjana Kavindi (39 off 36 balls), and Dahami Sanethma (31 off 25 balls) were also impressive with their performances with the bat for their side. Selena Ross (4-0-25-2), Jahzara Claxton (4-0-20-1), and Naijjani Cumberbatch (4-0-27-1) were the stars with the ball for the West Indies.

Chasing a tall total of 167, West Indies kept losing wickets at regular intervals. The lack of partnerships eventually saw them bundle out for 85 with a couple of balls to spare, falling 81 runs short of the target. The 20-run partnership for the 3rd wicket between Jahzara Claxton (15 off 9 balls) and skipper Samara Ramnath (24 off 23 balls) was the highest partnership of the run chase for the West Indies.

Kenika Cassar (12 off 11 balls), and Amrita Ramtahal (11 off 22 balls) were the only other batters who managed to enter into the double digits with the bat for the West Indies. Chamodi Praboda (4-0-16-3), Limansa Thilakarathna (3.4-0-7-2), Aseni Thalagune (4-0-16-2), and Pramudi Methsara (3-0-16-1) were the stars with the ball for Sri Lanka.

Vaishnavi Sharma’s 5/5 on debut guides India U19 to consecutive victories

Indian skipper Niki Prasad won the toss and opted to field first at the Bayuemas Oval, Kuala Lumpur. The Malaysian batters displayed a much better show, but eventually, the Indian bowlers proved to be a little too good for the hosts. The home side were bundled out for 31 with 33 balls to spare. None of the Malaysian batters entered into the double digits.

The young 19-year-old left-arm spinner Vaishnavi Sharma hogged the limelight as she picked up the first hat-trick of the ongoing 2nd edition of the ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup in Malaysia on her debut. She accounted for the wickets of Nur Ain Binti Roselan, Nur Isma Dania Binti, and Siti Nazwah to complete her hat trick. She returned with mind-blowing match figures of 4-1-5-5 in her dream spell on her World Cup debut. Aayushi Shukla (3.3-1-8-3), Parunika Sisodia (3-0-5-0), and Joshitha V J (2-1-5-1) were also exceptional with the ball for India.
