The Indian women’s cricket team is wearing black armbands to honor India’s former Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, ahead of the third ODI against the West Indies at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara. This poignant tribute comes after the former Prime Minister’s passing in New Delhi on December 26, 2024.
Dr. Manmohan Singh, one of India’s most respected statesmen, served as the country’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014. Before his tenure as Prime Minister, he was the Finance Minister from 1991 to 1996, during which he played a pivotal role in liberalizing India’s economy. A towering figure in Indian politics, Dr. Singh’s contributions have left an indelible mark on the nation’s development.
The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) posted on ‘X,’ “Team India is wearing black armbands today as a mark of respect to former Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh, who passed away on Thursday.”
Dr. Singh, aged 92, passed away due to age-related medical conditions. According to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), he experienced a sudden loss of consciousness at home. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead at 9:51 PM on December 26.
Meanwhile, the Indian women’s cricket team has already secured the three-match ODI series, winning the first two encounters. They aim to end the year on a high note with a clean sweep against the West Indies. On the other hand, the visitors will look to salvage pride by putting up a strong fight and turning the tables in the 3rd and final ODI.
