The Indian team put up a dominant performance with the bat in the first Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli notch up centuries.
It was the Indian team’s prolific batting on day three with Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring a marvelous 161, converting his overnight score of 90 on day two, after being dismissed for a duck in his first innings on Australian soil. What followed was Virat Kohli’s century and that put the visitors in a commanding position against the Australian side in the Perth Test. Yashasvi Jaiswal was India’s top scorer with 161 which included 15 boundaries and three sixes and was well supported by Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 100 including eight boundaries and two sixes.
Former Indian pacer Jhulan Goswami acknowledged Virat Kohli for his unbeaten century which was also his 81st international century. Jhulan Goswami emphasized Kohli’s ability to bounce back and silence the critics as well as showing resilience and thriving under pressure throughout his innings that put the visitors at an advantage.
Former Indian skipper Mithali Raj applauded Jaiswal’s innings on a bouncy Perth wicket and his exceptional performance on a challenging Perth wicket. Mithali Raj acknowledged Jaiswal’s skill set to counter against the toughest bowling attack and also emphasized Jaiswal as India’s next superstar in his growing reputation as a youngster.
Later on, India declared the innings for a score of 487/6 with Australia having a massive total of 534 to chase. Australia was bowled out for a score of 238 with India taking the lead in the five-match Test series.
