On September 11, 2024, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced the launch of the Women’s Under-19 T20 Asia Cup, a biennial tournament aimed at providing an ideal lead-up to the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup. With the inaugural Women’s U19 Asia Cup edition just days away, the ACC has now released the fixtures and groupings.
The tournament will feature six teams—India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and hosts Malaysia—of which Nepal secured their spot by winning the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier, an ICC event designed to determine Asia’s qualifier for the World Cup, now also the Asia Cup. Nepal topped the table with a superior Net Run Rate (NRR), finishing level on points (10) with the United Arab Emirates and ahead of Thailand and Kuwait.
The ACC has revealed the groupings for the U19 Asia Cup, with India, Pakistan, and Nepal placed in Group A, while Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia form Group B. All 12 games of this ACC event will be played at Bayuemas Cricket Oval and will kick off on December 15, featuring a face-off between hosts Malaysia and Sri Lanka. Later, on the opening day, India and Pakistan will take center stage, with the final set for December 22.
The league stage of the U19 Women’s T20 Asia Cup will follow a round-robin format, with each team facing the other two in its group once. The top two teams from each group will progress to the ‘Super Four,’ while the bottom-ranked teams (A3 and B3) will compete in a 5th-place playoff. In the Super Four, teams will play against each of the qualifiers from the opposite group once, with the table-toppers then advancing to the final. It is to be noted that the points and NRR from the league games will carry forward to the Super 4.
