West Indies skipper Hayley Matthews continues to elevate her remarkable career, adding yet another significant milestone by becoming only the second West Indian bowler to claim 100 wickets in T20I cricket. She achieved this feat during the West Indies’ clash against Scotland, where she dismissed the Scottish opener Saskia Horley.
This milestone also marked a broader achievement for Matthews, as it was her 200th international wicket across all formats for the West Indies, further solidifying her status as one of the premier all-rounders in the game.
She also became the fastest woman to reach 1,000 runs and 100 wickets in the T20I format, achieving the feat in her 98th match.

It was back in 2014, at 16, Hayley Matthews made her T20I debut for the West Indies against New Zealand. Although she didn’t bowl in her debut match, she made her mark soon after in her second T20I during the West Indies tour of Australia. In that game, she claimed her first-ever T20I wicket by dismissing none other than Australian captain Meg Lanning, finishing the match with notable figures of 3/26 (3.5).

Matthews’ growth as a bowler was evident early on, and by her seventh T20I, she had secured her first four-wicket haul, taking an exceptional 4/10 against Sri Lanka during the Windies tour of Sri Lanka in 2015. These remain her best bowling figures in the T20I format to this day.
Although Matthews initially gained attention for her explosive batting prowess, her development as a bowler has made her an invaluable asset to the West Indies bowling unit. She reached her first major bowling milestone in 2020 when, during the Windies tour of England, she claimed her 50th T20I wicket. Her ability to consistently take wickets has been a key factor in her rise, and in the four years since 2020, Matthews has added more than 50 wickets to her tally, culminating in her recent achievement of 100 T20I wickets.
In April 2024, Matthews also reached another major milestone, securing her 100th ODI wicket during the West Indies’ tour of Pakistan. Now, with 98 appearances in the T20I format and 100 wickets to her name, at an impressive economy rate of 5.86, Hayley Matthews remains a dominant force with her off-spin. Her consistent performances with both bat and ball continue to define her as one of the world’s leading all-rounders, and with her contributions to the West Indies across formats, she is undeniably a pivotal figure in international women’s cricket.
