ICC Women’s Player of the Month Nominees for August 2024 Announced

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed the nominees for the Women’s Player of the Month for August 2024. The list features emerging talent from Sri Lanka and two standout performers from Ireland.

Harshitha Samarawickrama (Sri Lanka)

Harshitha Samarawickrama, Sri Lanka’s rising star, made headlines by leading her team to victory in the Asia Cup. She scored an unbeaten 69* against India in the final, earning the Player of the Match award. Her impressive form continued against Ireland in both T20I and ODI series.

In the T20I series, Samarawickrama hit an unbeaten 86* in the first match and followed it with a 65-run innings, finishing as the top run-scorer with 151 runs. Despite an early dismissal in the ODI series, she bounced back with a career-best 105, becoming only the third Sri Lankan to score an ODI century. She capped the series with an unbeaten 48, concluding as the leading run-scorer with 172 runs.

Orla Prendergast (Ireland)

Irish all-rounder Orla Prendergast showcased her versatility against Sri Lanka, captaining the team in the final two ODIs due to injuries to Gaby Lewis and Laura Delany.

During the T20I series, Prendergast scored 67 runs and took two wickets. In the ODI series, she excelled, hitting a maiden century in the opener with an unbeaten 122. She also took a three-wicket haul for 25 runs and was instrumental in the field with two catches. Her performance helped Ireland achieve their highest-ever ODI chase, securing a 2-1 series win, with Prendergast finishing as the top run-scorer with 134 runs.

Gaby Lewis (Ireland)

In the home series against Sri Lanka, Gaby Lewis made a significant impact, setting the record for the highest individual score by an Irish player in T20I cricket with her maiden century.

After a solid 39 runs in the first T20I, Lewis dazzled in the second match with a superb 119 off 75 balls, leading her team to victory by 7 runs and leveling the series. Her innings included seventeen boundaries and two sixes. Lewis captained Ireland in the first ODI but was sidelined due to injury for the remaining two ODIs.
