Indian all-rounder Radha Yadav extends her thanks to NDRF for rescue work

Indian women’s cricketer Radha Yadav recently shared a concerning update on her Instagram account, posting a video that revealed the extent of flooding in her hometown of Vadodara.

The video showcased the city submerged under water due to heavy rainfall, caused by the rising water levels in the Vishwamitri River and the severe weather conditions affecting the region. In her Instagram story, Yadav disclosed that she was trapped in her own home due to the rising floodwaters, drawing attention to the adverse conditions faced by local residents and the impact of the heavy rainfall on daily life in the area.

The city was flooded after several days of sudden heavy rainfall in Vadodara, with residents’ lives severely disrupted. Radha uploaded a story on her Instagram account mentioning, “We were stuck in a very bad situation. Thank you so much #NDRF, for rescuing us.”

She also added a video of Vadodara city, people standing on terraces with water already at a concerning level, and the NDRF teams rescuing residents with the help of their boats and ropes. Through this story, Yadav expressed her gratitude towards the efforts of the NDRF teams in continuously helping people in these adverse conditions.

Currently, the situation in Vadodara is under control, and the rain has stopped, but the NDRF and SDRF teams are continuing their rescue operations. Over 6,000 people have been relocated to safer places as water levels in rivers and dams rise across the state. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert in 11 districts of Gujarat, including Vadodara, and 22 districts are under yellow alerts due to predictions of heavy rainfall in the coming days.

The Gujarat Government has additionally deployed 14 NDRF teams and 22 SDRF platoons to support disaster management efforts. Tragically, at least 28 people have died in the past three days, but 18,000 have been successfully evacuated from flood-hit areas.

On the cricketing front, the BCCI announced the 15-player squad for the Indian women’s cricket team that will participate in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, starting from October 3, 2024. Radha Yadav was included in this squad following her outstanding performance in the Women’s Asia Cup 2024, where she played 5 matches and took 6 wickets with the best bowling figures of 3/14 and an impressive economy rate of 6.14.

Radha Yadav will travel to the UAE with Team India for the upcoming ICC event. Due to uncertain events occurring in Bangladesh, the ICC decided to relocate the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup to the UAE and the Indian women’s team will play their first match against New Zealand on October 4th.
