The 27-year-old may have entered the competition as an underdog, but he threw his way into history for Pakistan with a gold medal in javelin. It is also Pakistan’s first medal of any color since 1992. Arshad Nadeem not only secured a gold medal but also broke the Olympic record, which was held by Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen with a 90.57-meter throw in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. It was on his second attempt that Arshad Nadeem threw 92.97 meters after his first attempt was marked as a foul.

Nadeem registered three of the four best throws in the final, which also included a throw of 91.79 meters in his last attempt. India’s Neeraj Chopra was the closest to him, with his throw landing at a distance of 89.45 meters in his second attempt, but it was not enough to stop Arshad Nadeem from clinching the gold. Neeraj Chopra finished second, having previously won a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Arshad Nadeem announced his comeback after finishing fifth in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Following his exceptional performance on the biggest stage, Pakistan’s leading female cricketers reacted on various social media platforms to celebrate his achievement.

Former captain Bismah Maroof tweeted her appreciation for the gold medalist, recognizing the glory he brought to his nation after a 32-year wait and noting that his feat would inspire the nation. She described him as the greatest brand ambassador of the sport in Pakistan.

Current Pakistan captain Nida Dar posted on Instagram to congratulate Arshad Nadeem and acknowledge his achievement.

Another former captain and current cricket commentator Sana Mir tweeted about the record-breaking 92.97-meter throw in the Olympics.

Muneeba Ali also joined in as Pakistan rejoiced, emphasizing that the throw will be etched in history books and thanked him on behalf of the nation. Her fellow teammates Aliya Riyaz tweeted, describing Arshad Nadeem as an ‘absolute legend’ for making the country proud, and Fatima Sana mentioned that she witnessed one man captivating the whole nation by achieving a historic feat, and she defined him as a ‘champion’.
