Rwanda wins bi-lateral series 3-2 against Nigeria Women in Kigali

Rwanda women’s cricket team defeated Nigeria Women’s Cricket team 3-2 in a five-match friendly bi-lateral series in Kigali which ended on Saturday.

The series is the return leg after the first leg was held in Abuja in January where Nigeria won 3-2 against the Rwanda.

Rwanda, the host won the first two matches played on Wednesday, 4th September at the Gahanga International Stadium, while their visitors Nigeria replied with wins in the next two matches on Friday, 6th September.

The 5th and the final match was played on Saturday, 7th September.

Winning the toss, Nigeria elected to bat first. They put a total of 110/4 in 20 overs. Etim Blessing played a wonderful knock of 44 runs and Salome Sunday helped with her 45 runs.

Rwanda reached the target in 20th over with just 5 balls to left and won the match by 4 wickets. Ikuzwe Alice, high-scored with 30 runs in 38 balls, building a strong base for the middle-orders.

Speaking on the friendly series, Yahaya Ukwenya, President of the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF), said the friendly was to expose and develop the female team ahead of future engagements.
