Another blow as Hayley Matthews withdrawn from West Indies women squad against Australia

Another blow for the West Indian Women’s cricket team in a span of 2 days, losing their first match against Australia by 178 runs wasn’t a blow big enough that now their vice-captain Hayley Matthew has been withdrawn from the national squad too, for the three ODIs and as many T20Is.

Matthews who was earlier named in the 13 member West Indies squad by the CWI Interim Selection Panel for Australia series is now not a part of the squad, owing to her withdrawal. The move came in the wake of a charge against Matthews of breaching Cricket West Indies’s code of conduct during an incident on Wednesday in Antigua.

“The matter has been referred to CWI Disciplinary Tribunal,” the Cricket West Indies (CWI) official website reported.

Sheneta Grimmond has been named as the replacement. The absence of Mathews is surely going to affect the team but now it all depends on how they perform in their upcoming matches.
