With all the action-packed cricketing season that is going on around the globe, Rwanda Nigeria Women T20I Bilateral Series is doing nothing but setting up the bar. All the five matches are set to take place at the Gahanga International Stadium, Kigali.
Two out of five matches have already taken place, with Rwanda winning one and the other being tied. Rwanda women won the toss in the first match and elected to field. Displaying an excellent bowling performance they restricted Nigerian women to a mere total of 77 runs and chased down the score with ease, and hence took an edge by winning the first match by 4 wickets, with Ikuzwe Alice bagging the player of the match for her contribution of 20 runs and 2 wickets.
Rwanda won the toss in the second match as well and elected to field again, but couldn’t capitalize the opportunity, as the Nigerian women made a strong comeback with Etim Blessing scoring an outstanding knock of 50 runs along with Kehinde Abdulquadri playing a supporting role as she scored 41 runs, and hence posted a total of 105 runs on the board by losing only 2 wickets. They didn’t win the match but made sure that they don’t lose either. The only batsmen to score past 30 runs from Rwanda were Uwamahoro Cathia (39 runs) and with the bowling performance that Nigerian women put forth, especially Obulor Agatha who took 2 wickets made sure that they do everything possible to restrict Rwanda to take a 2-0 lead against them.
With three more matches lined up, two will be taking place on 6th September and one on 7th September, it will be interesting to see as to who takes away the series.
