Indian women cricketers were in attendance at the lavish wedding of Mukesh Ambani’s youngest son, Anant, and his fiancée Radhika Merchant at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. The wedding, scheduled from 12th to 14th July 2024, attracted Bollywood stars, politicians, international celebrities, and other public figures.
Among the guests were several cricketers and sports personalities, including members of the Mumbai Indians’ women’s squad.
India captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who also led Mumbai Indians to victory in the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), graced the event alongside teammates Yastika Bhatia, Humairaa Kaazi, and Fatima Jaffer.
Former Indian cricketers Jhulan Goswami and Devika Palshikar, serving as bowling coach/mentor and batting coach for Mumbai Indians in the WPL, were also present. Indian vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, fresh from a successful home series against South Africa and leading Royal Challengers Bangalore to their maiden WPL title, also attended the event.
On the cricketing front, the Indian women’s team recently hosted South Africa at home for an all-format series spanning from June 16 to July 9. India began with a commanding clean sweep in the 3-match One-Day International (ODI) series, followed by a comfortable 10-wicket victory in the one-off Test, and wrapped the series with a dominant win in the 3rd Twenty20 International (T20I) to draw the series 1-1.
Looking ahead, the women’s team faces a packed schedule. They are gearing up for the Women’s T20 Asia Cup, scheduled from July 19 to July 28, 2024, in Sri Lanka. Later in the year, they will compete in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh. Wrapping up the year, India is slated to tour Australia for a One Day International (ODI) series.
