The men in blue ended a 17-year-old wait for T20 World Cup glory (after the 2007 T20 World Cup), a World Cup title after 13 years (after the 2011 ODI World Cup), and an ICC Trophy after 11 years (after the 2013 Champions Trophy). Skipper Rohit Sharma joins former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the one to lead his side to a T20 World Cup title, fulfilling the dreams of billions, and bringing tears of joy to Indian fans all around the world. The former skipper claimed the glory in the year 2007. Rohit Sharma becomes the only player to win a T20 World Cup Trophy both as a player and as a captain.

The recently concluded edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 was co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies. India fought through the challenging alien conditions in the USA leg of their campaign, displaying remarkable character and the nerves of steel getting over the line in an edge-of-the-seat low-scoring thrillers to book a spot in the Super Eight stage of the tournament.

As the action moved to the West Indies, the men in blue switched gears and got better with each game in their stride. They kickstarted their journey in the Super Eight stage with a comprehensive 47-run victory over a spirited Afghanistan side led by skipper Rashid Khan. They handed a hammering 50-run defeat to Bangladesh led by skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, solidifying their chances for a spot in the semi-final.

The Indian team were up against Australia led by skipper Mitchell Marsh in the penultimate league game of the tournament. Skipper Rohit Sharma led from the front, scoring a blazing 92 at a strike rate of 224.39. India eventually inflicted a massive blow, landing a potential knock-out punch to Australia’s qualification hopes with a comfortable 24-run victory over the Aussies.

India were all set to face England led by skipper Jos Buttler in the 2nd semi-final. A repeat of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 2nd semi-final in Adelaide. The men in blue managed to put the scars of 2022 to bed with a thrashing 68-run margin to progress to the final. The men in blue were all set to face South Africa led by skipper Aiden Markram for the title clash. Much-like the Indian team South Africa too were unbeaten in the tournament.
