The Proteas last played a Test match in India back in 2014 in Mysore, where the Indian team secured a comprehensive victory by an innings and 34 runs. Recently, South Africa faced Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I and ODI series in March-April 2024. South Africa struggled, losing the T20I series 2-1 and tying the ODI series 1-1, with one match curtailed by rain. Conversely, India had a successful five-match T20I series against Bangladesh in April and May, which they whitewashed 5-0.

Cricket South Africa has announced a 16-player roster for the Proteas Women’s tour of India, which includes three ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25 One-Day Internationals and a single Test match scheduled between June 16 and July 1. Chloe Tryon and Karabo Meso are missing from the squad that played against Sri Lanka, while Mieke De Ridder and Nondumiso Shangase have been added to the team.

Both all-rounder Annerie Dercksen and wicketkeeper-batter Mieke De Ridder are yet to debut in ODIs and Tests. Annerie Dercksen made her T20I debut against the West Indies in January 2023 during the fourth match of the South Africa Women’s T20I Tri-Series, while Mieke De Ridder debuted against Pakistan in September 2023 in the third T20I of South Africa Women’s tour of Pakistan.

Pacer Eliz-Mari Marx, who was included in the Test squad against Australia in February, is part of the team while batting all-rounder Nondumiso Shangase has received her maiden call-up for the Test match. Marx debuted in both white-ball formats during Bangladesh Women’s tour of South Africa. Shangase debuted in T20Is against Pakistan in May 2019 and in ODIs against India in October 2019.
