The inaugural PCB Women’s University Cricket Tournament 2024 commenced on the 28th May across multiple cities in Pakistan, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Karachi, and Multan. This thrilling T20 tournament features the talents of 14 university teams, with four teams each competing in the Karachi and Lahore Zones, while the Multan and Rawalpindi Zones will feature three teams each.
The competition serves as a platform to unearth promising young talent in women’s cricket, with participants required to be aged 25 or below. With a total of 210 players taking center stage, the tournament promises to be an exciting display of skill and athleticism.
In the Karachi Zone, spectators can look forward to witnessing matches between Newport University, the University of Karachi, Jinnah University for Women, and Hamdard University at the renowned IBA Ground. Meanwhile, Lahore Zone matches will be held at COMSATS, Lahore, featuring teams from Lahore College Women’s University, University of Punjab, Government College University, and Kinnaird College.
Rawalpindi Zone action will unfold at Viqar-un-Nisa College, Rawalpindi, where SBBWU Peshawar, Fatima Jinnah Women’s University, and International Islamic University will compete for supremacy. Lastly, in the Multan Zone, Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) will host matches between Women’s University Multan and Islamia University, Bahawalpur, offering fans a taste of cricketing excellence in the heart of Multan.
The tournament’s format will see the table-toppers from each zone progressing to the final, scheduled to take place on June 3rd at their respective zones. As excitement builds and anticipation mounts, all eyes will be on these talented university teams as they vie for glory and the chance to leave their mark on Pakistan’s cricketing landscape.
