132-year-old Allahabad University is all set to get its first women’s cricket team in the next few months. The new team will start participating in the current academic session’s tournaments.

Though the university was trying to form its own women’s cricket team from the past ten years, its inability to meet the four bowler rule made its efforts go in vain. Allahabad University’s dean of students welfare and director of sports, Harsh Kumar said, “Four students of the ones who got admission under sports quota this year have played cricket at the school level. They will help us fix the problem of lack of bowlers on the team.” As per Inter-University Sports Board, every university-level cricket team should have four bowlers. “The trials for team selection would begin mid-September,” Kumar added.

The university’s cricket coach Devesh Mishra has been the front-runner in the formation of women’s team as the university administration recently sanctioned funds for the purchase of cricket kits for the sportswomen on his formal request.
